ETCO Electric Supply Inc Company History

Earl Thompson, a native of Wisconsin, was born in Mosinee on August 11th, 1925. After graduating High School, Earl proudly joined the Navy serving our Country as a gunner. After his tour of duty, Earl worked and attended technical school for a period of time in Milwaukee before relocating to Wausau. After moving to Wausau, Earl joined together with his brother-in-law Ray Schmidt and Ray’s brother Bernie at Raybern Lighting Center. While working at Raybern Lighting, Earl decided to pursue his own electrical wholesale business and in 1972 started ETCO Electric Supply Inc. Earl spent 22 years building this business before retiring in 1994. ETCO Electric Supply was then taken over by Earl’s sons Jeff and Mark who have been with the company for over 30 years and have continued the traditions that ETCO was built on.

Since 1972 ETCO Electric Supply has provided Central Wisconsin and the Northwoods with quality electrical products at an affordable price. In a constantly changing electrical field, ETCO Electric Supply has diversified its products to better meet the needs of its valued customers. ETCO caters to residential, commercial and industrial customers as well as the general public. Although limited to one location, ETCO has the capability of servicing a wide variety of electrical contractors. This includes a knowledgeable sales team with over 150 years of combined experience, an excellent staff as well as a free delivery service to the entire sales territory. With customer service being the top priority, the staff at ETCO Electric Supply continues to service their customers even after the sale.

ETCO Electric Supply is Wausau’s only locally owned and operated electrical supplier and has maintained its presence by selling products from manufacturers that stand behind their products. With one location, it is crucial to have a substantial inventory in order to accommodate the customer’s commitment to getting their job done. In addition to electrical products, ETCO offers many other products for their customers such as tools, tool accessories, gloves and ladders. These additional products allow the customer to make one stop before going to the job site.

It is ETCO’s goal to continue servicing existing customers with the same quality that has been provided since 1972. In addition, we always invite new customers to give us the opportunity to serve them.
